Through the years working with hundreds involving brides, I have come to educate yourself that the most critical component of a successful wedding phone coverage is establishing accurate
expectations for any band and the buyer early in the operation. Surprises are never good that will almost always be avoided. Here are the top five ways to make sure that expectations are
appropriately arranged.
Work with the band directly.
Bands can be booked directly or through a so-called booking agent. When it comes to wedding bands, rarely will the agent represent the band. More likely, the "agent" brokers a deal relating to the
buyer and the piece. This is not to speak about that a good agent isn't helpful, but it means likely not a part in the band's organization. Whether you book the band directly or via the booking
agent, it is critical that you develop a relationship along with the
band's get hold of person. That person is most probably a band leader or maybe a manager.
Why is this important? We all know that "telephone game" where a single person whispers something to anybody next to him who whispers to another person and so on. By the time the message gets to
the end, it has completely changed. Removing the middle man removes the risk in the message changing by enough time it gets to this intended recipient.
The other risk of not communicating directly with the band is that the message simply never makes it to the band. I once had a situation dealing with a reputable agency in which the mother of the
bride-to-be requested the band play several songs. The request was sent to the agent who never forwarded it in my opinion. I only found out following your wedding reception when I contacted the
mother of the bride to follow up. Dealing directly with the band removes any chance for messages getting warped or lost therefore gives you and the band confidence that you are both on the exact
same page.
If an agent refuses to let you speak with the band directly everytime in the process,
work! This is a red flag that the agent is much more concerned about controlling the transaction to
protect his or her interests than he or she is about addressing your needs.
See the band live at another wedding celebration before making the appointing decision.
There is no better way to make certain of what you increasingly becoming than seeing the band in action at another wedding phone coverage. As a band manager, I always encourage prospective clients
to see all the bands they can be considering in a live performance before making their decision. I do this for two reasons. First, I can discuss what the band will do until I'm blue in the face,
but the most effective, easiest and most accurate way to understand it is to check out it. Seeing the band removes any chance for misunderstanding or confusion. As Elvis Costello when said "Writing
about music is much like dancing about architecture. " It's much far better to just go look at the building. Second, if you see all the bands you are looking at, you will have absolute confidence
inside your decision - no second guessing that this band you have hired may not be good enough or that other bands may very well be better.
